Artboard 13    NEIGHBOURHOOD & LIFESTYLE

Residents of all ages, who want to live and work locally, are drawn to the centrality of Woolloongabba. This suburb sees a slow turnover in property sales, as residents fall in love with the lifestyle and prefer to stay long term.

New families jump at the opportunity to renovate and tend to hold onto their homes for many years, opposed to flipping them. The area is also popular with medical professionals due to the proximity to the Mater Hospital. Small shopping precincts can be found throughout the suburb, which are full of restaurants, cafes and boutique shops to enjoy, minus the hustle and bustle of major complexes.

Woolloongabba’s history and future.

The history of this suburb is celebrated through small touches from the past throughout Woolloongabba, such as the ‘Moreton Rubber Works’ lettering emblazoned across the heritage listed building, established circa 1890. While the suburb pays homage to the past it also has an exciting future ahead.

The Woolloongabba bikeway project is set to stretch from Dutton Park to South Brisbane, increasing cyclist safety and linking to universities, the CBD and middle-ring suburbs. Larger scale but still transport related, is the Brisbane Cross-River Rail, proposed to stretch under the Brisbane River, from Bowen Hills to Dutton Park. The project will begin in 2019, and Woolloongabba will be home to one of one of five new stops.

With these new infrastructure projects, Woolloongabba is set to become a tapestry of old and new, benefitting residents and visitors alike.
