From what was an old run down Queenslander, this Camp Hill house has been transformed into the ultimate family home.

After months of planning and renovation this home has been opened, creating an extremely spacious and tranquil place to live. Homeowner Heather and her partner had been on the hunt for a home in Camp Hill for about a month, when by chance, they came across 106 Watson Street one afternoon.

“We had both previously owned homes in Camp Hill and absolutely loved the area for many reasons. The style of the homes, the ease of access to the city and coasts both north and south, the coffee shops, the parks and the feel an established suburb like Camp Hill has and gives. So when we found this home in all its original glory, we instantly knew this was the one,” says Heather.

Before the renovation process commenced, Heather and her partner knew certain elements they wanted to include in their dream home.

“We both desperately wanted a substantial deck as the outdoors, in our opinion, is glorious. Having it connect to the rest of the house with open plan living was important to us, especially for entertaining. A roomy kitchen that connected the indoors to the deck was a no brainer,” says Heather.

“Creating the sense of openness throughout the home meant knocking down some of the original walls, but this changed entire living space upstairs which now opens up to the deck. It really does take your breath away when you walk in. Especially when you compare it to what the home used to be like, closed off and dark.”

When most Queenslanders are renovated, keeping some of the original elements of the home is a popular trend. In this case the surrounding homes in the street are full of character, so Heather and her partner didn’t want to stray from that style. They especially loved the ceiling cornices, which they ended up retaining as much as possible throughout the renovation.

Throughout every great renovation are struggles and hardships. Heather says there were a few delays for them along the way, which they pushed through.

“The excavation took a lot longer than we thought. Three excavators were damaged in the process. Lets just say the amount of rock beneath us means that the foundations are extremely solid with no chance of faltering.”

With proper planning and help from an expert these hardships are not a major issue. When renovating it’s important to research and find the right professional to help you along the way.

The renovatioprocess for Heather and her partner was seamless because of their builder.

“Our builder was amazing as were his team. They couldn’t do enough to satisfy our needs and offer ideas and guidance when he had no idea at all. If we had to give one piece of advice to future renovators, it would be to research immensely and ensure you find the right builder for the job and let the experts do what they do best."

Aside from the challenges along the way Heather says, “once you get to the end of the process and you get to experience and see what you have created and once you live in the home, it’s extremely rewarding.
