Primely located in Brisbane’s Southside, Sunnybank Hills is home to a growing population of 18,085 people, of which 76% are families.
As three quarters of the suburbs population, this demographic is a significant portion of Sunnybank Hills. So, what is it exactly that’s attracting large numbers of families to settle in this suburb?
Firstly, according to Sunnybank Hills specialist Kevin Chiu, one of the major consideration factors for a family when choosing a home, are the nearby education facilities.
Sunnybank Hills is in the catchment area for numerous sought after schools including; Sunnybank Hills State School, Runcorn State High School, Sunnybank State High School and Stretton State College. Could this be a contributing factor to the high percentage of families choosing to call this suburb home?
“The suburb is becoming an increasingly popular suburb for young families because of the top ranking Sunnybank Hills State School. This is a huge contributing factor to why families choose to call this suburb home,” says Kevin.
Mother of five and a Sunnybank Hills local, Paula He says Sunnybank Hills is home to one of the top schools in Brisbane.
“Although our children are educated outside of Sunnybank Hills, we know the Sunnybank Hills State School is in the top five schools in Queensland. If we hadn’t already had our children in a school prior to moving to the area, this school would have been our number one choice.”
“From what I have heard from friends and other parents from the suburb, schooling is a huge reason as to why they choose to move to Sunnybank Hills especially to be in the Sunnybank Hills State School catchment,” says Paula.
In addition to proximity to school catchments, the suburbs accessibility to wider Brisbane may be considered a factor attracting families. Located 18 kilometers from Brisbane’s CBD, residents can easily get from Sunnybank Hills to Central Brisbane well within half an hour. As well as this, the suburb is central to major highways heading both north and south.
Finally, Sunnybank Hills has an array of large open spaces, recreational areas and parks scattered throughout the suburb. For families, this is most certainly a positive as it means the kids can get outside and enjoy the spaces provided without having to go too far away from home. Paula says her kids enjoy the outside entertainment which is only a hop-skip-and-jump away from their family home.
“Sunnybank Hills has plenty of outside entertainment for the children and I feel as though it is an extremely safe environment. Near our home, there are a large handful of parks that we enjoy using on a regular basis.”
With multiple educational options, prime location and child-friendly outdoor spaces, it’s no doubt 76% of this suburbs population are families. For the growing or established family, these factors combined with the suburbs great lifestyle facilities positions Sunnybank Hills as a prime family friendly area in Brisbane.
