Greenery can be a great statement and a lovely way to present your home right from the front yard.

More and more people are opting for evergreen hedges for screening and shade, and it’s easy to see why - they’re gorgeous!

The team at Oxley Nursery are the experts in our area for everything garden related.

If you’ve found yourself wanting some privacy but without a huge concrete wall (or cost!), then maybe it’s time to think about growing yourself a nice, green hedge!

Here are four types of plants which are perfect for hedging and screening.

Lilly Pilly

This plant is an obvious choice for a hedge!

Quick-growing and beautifully bushy, the Lilly Pilly thrives in the Australian climate.

It also loves semi-shade and moist soil, but won’t do too badly in drought conditions.

With beautiful flowers, the Lilly Pilly makes an excellent screen.

Murraya

Also known as the Mock Orange, the Murraya is another plant which makes for an great hedge.

A standout feature of this shrub is its stunning flowers which smell just like an orange blossom.

They can grow quickly and reach about three metres tall, and should only need pruning once a month to keep them nice and tidy.

Summerscent

For a plant which requires even less maintenance than the Murraya, you can’t go past the Summerscent.

With all of the benefits like beautiful flowers, hardiness and quick-growing, the Summerscent has quickly become a new favourite for hedges.

It will attract birds and bees to your garden and provide you with wonderful shade and privacy.

Lucious

Our final type is the Lucious, which is great for screening up to two stories of a building.

If you’re looking for something a bit taller to provide both shade and privacy, the Lucious is appreciative of full sun or semi-shade.

It grows to be about 12 metres tall and can be up to five metres wide, so perfect for your double-storey home.

With shiny leaves and beautiful bark, you’re going to want a few of these in your garden!
