Iconic Newstead House to celebrate reopening with exciting event

Tuesday July 2, 2024 ● By Emily Russ // Place Estate Agents

A true landmark amongst Newstead’s modern skyline, Newstead House is set to enchant visitors once again when it throws open its colonial-era doors this July.

Following three years of extensive restorations, the 19th-century European-style residence is ready to be admired in all its grandeur… and there will be a spectacular family-friendly event to mark the occasion!

Promising to impress history-lovers, architecture-fans and locals alike, Newstead House’s free official reopening party (Saturday, July 6) will feature everything from gourmet food trucks and live music to artisan markets. Children can also enjoy kid-friendly entertainment and lawn games, while those keen to learn about Brisbane’s past are invited to explore the magnificent homestead on a self-guided tour.

Positioned on the banks of the sparkling Brisbane River, Newstead House has evolved from a dual-level Georgian cottage to a bona fide Brisbane icon. Loved for its traditional design details and picnic-ready lawns, the homestead has undergone a three-year restoration to reflect when local businessman George Harris and his family lived in the property between 1862 and 1890. Period furnishings and refreshed interiors offer a glimpse into Newstead House’s history, making a visit to the property an incredible experience.
