The design process is complete for the development of the new Inner City North State Secondary College. Set to commence construction in 2019, the school will be a flagship, future-focused educational facility in conjunction with Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Located on St Pauls Terrace and Brookes Street in Fortitude Valley, the facility will cater students from years seven through to 12. As the first inner Brisbane school to be built in over 50 years, the school will service the growing community in the catchment of Fortitude Valley, Newstead, Bowen Hills and New Farm. Relieving enrolment pressure from Kelvin Grove State College, the school is due to open in 2020, accommodating for 1,500 students by 2025.

The construction of the school will adopt a vertical design solution to reflect its inner city, urban setting. With technology being a key aspect of the new school, innovation and future-focused approaches will be at the forefront.

The Department of Education and QUT are said to be working closely with stakeholders to set the new foundations of the flagship, with plans to hire a Principal in mid 2018. The Principal will lead the development of the school, drawing expertise and input from QUT, leading educators and the school community.

Real Estate Agent for Place New Farm, and Fortitude Valley specialist, Aaron Woolard, says the development of the school will bring great things to the suburb.

There has been a real gap in the education for the area so this will certainly boost the area,” says Aaron.

According to Aaron, education facilities play a major part when buyers are selecting a suburb to purchase in.

“When searching for a property, being in the right school area is the number one priority. If you look at South Brisbane and State High School - people will purchase anything to ensure they can get there child into that school.

“This is a great step in the right direction for Fortitude Valley,” he says.
