It’s that time of the year again – time to dust off a fabulous outfit and discover the slew of amazing experiences on offer as part of Brisbane Festival. After a year of on-again-off-again lockdowns, we’re certainly ready to get out and get a little cultured.
A true highlight of Brisbane’s exciting calendar, Brisbane Festival (September 3 to 25) will once again transform the city into a vibrant wonderland of art and entertainment. Expect everything from dazzling drag performances and awe-inspiring art displays to incredible concerts and unmissable comedy shows. There will also be the world premiere of Trent Dalton’s Boy Swallows Universe on stage, as well as orchestral performances at QPAC and an unforgettable fashion show featuring First Nations designers. Sign us up!
A hit last year, the festival’s Street Serenades will return in 2021 to enchant audiences across Brisbane’s suburbs. Free to attend and covering a variety of genres, these unique pop-up performances will take place in locales such as Wynnum West, Woolloongabba, Northgate, Hawthorne and Forest Lake. Be sure to catch Kate Miller Heidke, Cheap Fakes, Katie Noonan and the Queensland Ballet.
Want more? Make tracks to Hamilton’s Northshore to see the multi-sensory art installation Airship Orchestra or navigate a futuristic light maze at the Queensland Maritime Museum. To really go all-out, book your spot on one of the festival’s Art Boats, which will pair Brisbane River cruises with performances from an impressive line-up of dance and musical artists.
Of course, we can’t talk about Brisbane Festival without mentioning the annual Sunsuper Riverfire (September 25). Promising to light up the night skies once again, this spectacular event marks the festival’s end and will feature one seriously impressive fireworks display and flying demonstrations from the Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force. This is your official reminder to scope out the best vantage point.
