It's that time of year where the Easter Bunny is gearing up for deliveries in Brisbane once again - how egg-citing! To get in the spirit of things, a range of Easter-themed events are happening across Brisbane that promise enjoyment for all ages. Time to hop to it...
Discover Community Events in the Park
Bright blue skies, warm sunshine and a pleasant chill in the air – is there a nicer time of the year to explore Brisbane’s beautiful parklands? Inviting you to enjoy all this and more, a collection of family-friendly Easter events are happening in the city’s greenspaces.
Cherished for its leafy gardens and charming picnic areas, the Sherwood Arboretum will be the place to be Thursday, March 28. Kicking off the festivities here a little early, the team from Place Graceville will be hosting a special Easter Egg hunt that children of all ages will love!
Redlands locals, hop along to the marvellous Shoreline Easter Picnic in the Park event at Jingeri Park on Sunday, March 24. Expect food trucks, outdoor games, live music, kid-friendly entertainment and a visit from the Easter Bunny. Bring along your favourite picnic blanket for a spectacular day out.
On the north side? Seek out chocolate eggs and shop for artisan wares by the water at the popular Redcliffe Markets Good Friday Pop-Up (Friday, March 29).
Road Trip to The Races in the Countryside
Fancy a trip out west? Make tracks (get it?) to the Beaudesert Race Club in the aptly-named Scenic Rim for its Easter Saturday Races (Saturday, March 30).
A favourite with families, this brilliant event pairs all the classic racing action with pony rides, face-painting and Easter Bunny meet-and-greets for the littlies. Giddy up for a truly fantastic day out!
Catch a Film Outdoors
Cosy up and get ready to watch ‘Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway’ as the sun sets over Victoria Park for an Easter edition of the much-loved ‘Outdoor Cinema in the Suburbs’ sessions. Forming part of the parklands’ phenomenal ‘Brisbane’s Biggest Easter Weekend’ event (Friday, March 29 to Monday, April 1), the event will also feature a screening of the 2005 film ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ later in the evening. Only making the experience all the sweeter, a convoy of food trucks will have you covered for movie snacks.
Taking place further south, the ‘Everleigh Easter Movie Night’ event at Greenbank’s Everleigh AFL Oval will include a screening of ‘Clifford the Big Red Dog’ (Saturday, March 23). There will also be Easter-themed games and prizes, as well as free popcorn and chocolate eggs for kids.
Indulge and Get Your Culture-Fix in the City
Synonymous with luxury and delectable fare, the W Brisbane will be serving an exclusive Easter edition of its Ever After High Tea to celebrate two wonderful occasions. Available Friday, March 22 to Sunday, April 7, the offering is inspired by Easter foodie classics and the spellbinding ‘Fairy Tales’ exhibition at GOMA.
With traditional morsels such as hot cross buns with whipped butter and strawberry jam, the spread also includes a chocolate egg that you crack using a tiny hammer. Adding a touch of fairy tale-style whimsy are treats like Snow White’s Bittersweet Poisoned Apple Mousse and Queen of Hearts chocolate and hazelnut cakes. Top it all off by sipping on a decadent Crème Eggstraordinare cocktail and by visiting the enchanting exhibition just across the Brisbane River in South Bank.
Enjoy Carnival-Style Fun
Can’t wait for Ekka in August? Get your taste of carnival fun at the Good Friday Easter Festival (Friday, March 29) held at Caboolture Showgrounds.
The perfect way to kick off the Easter long weekend, this exciting event at the Caboolture Showgrounds will have everything from carnival rides and egg hunts to dazzling fireworks! Our pick? We can’t resist the adorable barnyard babies at the animal farm.
