Coffee tables are as practical as they are an opportunity to really inject some style into a space, especially when selling your property. The essentials are needed, such as your remotes, a cup of tea and a place to stash your current book, but they aren’t the items you want to be using to style your coffee table when selling.
It’s no secret that living rooms are a crucial consideration for buyers. A coffee table has the ability to act as a centrepiece of the room. With well thought-out and themed styling, coffee tables can set the mood and create a focal point for the entire room.
Luckily, we’ve got some great styling advice. We caught up with interior stylist, Marion Taylor owner of Tailored Home Styling, to get her top tips on how to style your coffee table when selling your property.
Tip 1: Ground your items
The first thing you will need when styling your coffee table is something to ground your items.
For example, Marion suggests using a tray and a book as the base of the setting.
“The purpose of the book and the tray is to ground the other items in your setting. These elements become the heart of the setting and are an important element when styling your coffee table,” says Marion.
Tip 2: Rule of three’s
When it comes to home decor, the one rule you must follow in terms of the decorative aspects, is the rule of threes.
“The rule of threes is an old styling trick. It’s something I like to follow as I feel things look better and well placed when they are in a group of three,” says Marion.
Styling ornaments in a groups of three is easy on the eye and always makes the setting look complete.
Tip 3: Adding natural elements
As usual, when styling any space, adding a natural element is key to bringing nature into the room.
Marion likes to add greenery or flowers to her coffee table setting.
“Greenery gives the overall look light and depth. If you have flowers or a plant to use when styling your coffee table, they will tie into the colour scheme of the room and give it an earthy, less sterile feel.”
Tip 4: Add something translucent
A translucent item adds another element to the base of the setting, without creating cluster.
“What I like to use when styling is either a glass vase or a see-through sculpture. This adds interest to the overall look without it looking over done,” says Marion.
Tip 5: Variant heights
To add depth to the coffee table setting, use items that are different heights.
“Variant heights within your setting creates a line of variation for the eye, which is visually pleasing,” says Marion.
Tip 6: Add a scented candle
Candles are the perfect decorative item to set the mood.
Not only does the flame create a warm sensation and feel, a candle always looks lovely and peaceful.
Marion suggests using a scented candle to further set the mood of the room.
“Scented candles are everyone's best friends when it comes to styling. It’s an effortless yet important styling trick.”
