According to Interior Stylist and Owner of Vanilla House, Ruth Raison, ‘coastal-chic’ is a home decor trend that’s very popular right now.
Ruth gives us five tips on how to simply and effectively create a coastal vibe in your living room.
Tip 1: Feature Lamp
Feature lamps are a great way to set the overall mood of the living room space.
When trying to create a coastal vibe in the room, Ruth suggests a white, tall lamp would be best.
“A feature lamp that isn’t to short and in a beautiful shade of white will always set the coastal mood in the room and is the perfect way to add some height to your side table”.
Tip 2: Beachy Artwork
What says ‘coastal-chic’ more than a gorgeous piece of beachy artwork?
“Watercolour is always best,” says Ruth.
With gorgeous shades of blue throughout, this piece of art will set the scene for some other colours to coordinate with throughout your living room.
Tip 3: Coral
Decorations and ornaments in your living room will always set the scene.
Ruth believes that using coral on your side table or coffee table will instantly add to the beachy vibe of the room.
“You always need some coral in your coastal house!” says Ruth.
Tip 4: Orchids
An important decor item that should be added to every home is flowers.
Orchids are perfect for a ‘coastal-chic’ living room and are currently a very popular home decor trend. They are easily maintainable and cost effective, too.
“A little Orchid set in its own vase is a great start to your flower collection throughout your home,” says Ruth.
Tip 5: Soft Cool Timbers
It’s important when styling your living space with a coastal theme in mind, to choose furniture that brings the entire look together.
You will need a gorgeous side table or coffee table to put all of your decor items on top of. Ruth suggests getting a piece of furniture that is a soft cool timber.
“This will be gentle on the eye and will match with any colour scheme you like for your space”.
