Mothers of Boys (MOB) is an Australia-wide charity that celebrates the triumphs and challenges of being the only woman in a house of boys.

Born in Brisbane on the sideline of a football game, the Mothers of Boys organisation hosts a luncheon each year, raising funds for a variety of different charities.

In the past, they’ve donated the money to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and Orange Sky Laundry, along with many more over their 13-year history.

We spoke to Helen Grant, an agent at Place Newmarket and current executive committee member about the fantastic work they do.

What sort of causes does Mothers of Boys get involved with?

This year we’re raising funds for Roses in the Ocean, a nation-wide charity that aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and suicide prevention.

Last year, we supported Orange Sky Laundry.

Other recipients have included the Abused Child Trust, Pathways to Resilience, Child Development Network Mater Hospital; BrainChild Foundation, The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation for Bivacor artificial heart, Project Now, Aunties and Uncles QLD, and the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

How do you think Mothers of Boys positively impacts the local community?

The best way to describe the events we host is ‘unashamedly fun’ and very, very pink.

The “fun factor” is our point of difference and one of the many reasons why we often have to move to larger venues (and still have to turn people away!)

We combine the serious element of fundraising for worthy and meaningful causes with great entertainment.

We attract an audience of 650 women and having these loving mums in the one space at the one time allows us to generate solid funds for our chosen charity.

How can people get involved with Mothers of Boys or support your causes?

MOB is an exclusive club open only to mothers that have only sons.

For Mothers of Mixed Siblings (MOMs) and Mothers of Girls (MOGs) - there’s good news!

These ladies have now started their own luncheons as a direct result of not being allowed to attend MOB events.

What’s next for Mothers of Boys?

The Sydney lunch is next on the agenda and plans are already underway for August with our events team busy planning and preparing.

Gus Worland will be guest speaker and Roses in the Ocean will have a speaker present as well as some exciting entertainment.

If you’re a Mother or Boys, head to their website www.mothersofboys.com.au to get involved in their upcoming events.
