Tucked away in Taringa, amongst greenery and bushland, is a tranquil family paradise.
Built on a huge block, the stunning Queenslander is surrounded by a large yard, tennis court and pool. What a perfect space to raise a family?
The original home at 19 Goldsbrough Road was built in 1920 and completely renovated in 2011 with the aim of retaining the original feel while suiting a modern day family.
The renovation has captured the eyes of many including Australian House & Garden magazine where the residence featured in November, 2013. How cool!
Every home has a story to tell. We spoke with the owner, Megan Clifford, who shared her favourite things about the property.
Tell us the story of how you came to live in the home?
We are a family with four young boys, so the size of the yard was what attracted us in the first place - the pool, tennis court, lots of grass and bushland at the back gate for exploring was perfect for their childhood.
It was also a lovely old home that had wonderful bones and sat beautifully on the block, it just needed a bit of TLC.
The home is walking distance to trains and buses and all the shops in and around Indooroopilly. We had access to all the advantages of the city with a feeling of almost being in a country town.
Over the years how have you grown into the property and made it your own?
We spent a few years living here and getting a feel for what worked and what didn’t, then we embarked on a major 13 month renovation.
Our aim was to create a home that had great communal spaces for all of the family, but also separate zones for kids and adults. We also made sure that the home would work well for both younger kids as well as teenagers.
We had fabulous builders, architects and designers that we’ve worked with before - they knew our family and our needs so it was an easy and enjoyable process.
The end result is a house that’s easy to live and entertain in. We love it.
What have you loved most about living in this stunning home?
Our favourite part of the home has to be the space and the greenery, it truly feels like being in the bush.
We’ve entertained large numbers of people at the home from family celebrations to team sporting breakup parties and even a wedding!
The north east facing back deck is fabulous in the morning. There is wonderful birdlife in the bush behind us which is always calming and peaceful.
There have been so many cricket and footy games in the yard over the years and the boys have been very lucky to have had all this space at their back door.
The home is also located pretty much at the top of the hill so it’s really breezy and we rarely use the aircon - if there’s a breeze, we get it.
As a suburb, what do you think is special about Taringa?
Taringa is a great suburb to live in. We’re close to everything but it’s still quiet and peaceful, like you’re a million miles away from the city.
There’s a fabulous coffee shop at the bottom of our street called Abode and a great local convenience store.
Everything you could think of is in walking distance or just a few kilometres away.
Growing up, the boys could easily walk to the train station or bus stop to travel to school. There’s easy access to a great kindy called Hillsdon Kindy, which the boys went to, and nearby high schools that are highly regarded along with the University of Queensland.
What makes the area even more appealing for families is that there are plenty of parks close by and walking trails leading to Mt Coot-tha.
