Taking a character style Queenslander home from the streets of New Farm and moving it to her ideal piece of land in Brookfield, Fiona Maloney has created the ideal living space.
Surrounded by bushland, lush greenery and the sound of singing birds, the newly renovated Queenslander perfectly captures the peaceful atmosphere that Brookfield has to offer.
Having raised her two children in the home, we asked Fiona what she loves about the Savages road property and why she thinks it’s special.
Tell us about the process of moving the house?
At the time when we were looking to purchase a new home, I had a newborn with another baby on the way so we were looking for a larger family home.
I found the land at Brookfield, which just seemed like the perfect space. It had so much to offer - it’s relaxing environment, lots of space and great views.
At the same time, we saw the cottage in Sydney street, New Farm.
The home was a beautiful character Queenslander that was ready to be knocked down or moved out of the suburb.
I was a little torn at the time on what to do, but it seemed like the perfect opportunity to take the home I wanted and move it to the land we’d purchased in Brookfield.
Why did you choose to live in Brookfield?
I grew up in the area when I was a child and after a long time overseas, I made the decision to move back to Brisbane to raise my family.
What I love about Brookfield is that it’s close to the city, yet it feels a million miles away.
The suburb has a real country feel to it and an amazing sense of community, but all the advantages of living near the city.
It’s truly is a special area. I enjoyed growing up here and have loved seeing my kids grow up here.
What have you love most about living in this Brookfield home?
I love waking up to the sounds of the birds in the morning and looking out, not seeing any of the neighbours.
It’s such a beautiful, peaceful environment that offers a relaxing style of living.
It has all the benefits of acreage but none of the maintenance.
I’ve loved the Queenslander style of our home, combined with the privacy of the block – it’s an unbeatable combination.
Who do you see moving into the property?
We renovated the home to suit a family lifestyle.
We’ve enjoyed our time in the home, my children have been raised here and it has been very memorable.
Because my family has spent so many years here, we envisage the home suiting a family with children of any age.
I think what’s so great about the home is there’s lots of spaces to entertain from the deck, the living area, the yard and out by the pool.
Another big plus of the property is that it’s low maintenance – the pool, gardens and home are all designed to be low maintenance.
Real estate agent, Ann-Karyn Fraser, shares what she thinks is unique about the Savages road home.
I think what’s so unique about the home is the character Queenslander style brings a lot of personality to the property, although it's completely renovated.
When moving the home from New Farm to Brookfield they have very strategically positioned the property on the block of land.
The house is elevated which captures magnificent leafy views, makes the best use of the daily sun and receives beautiful breezes all year round.
The bushland landscape of Brookfield makes you feel like you’re in a small country town, but you’re not far from the hustle and bustle of the city life.
