Inspired Design | An interview with Leigh Boswell from Interior Design company Highgate House

Tuesday February 14, 2017 ● By My Place Our Place

With a passion for interiors and keen eye for detail, Director and Principal Designer Leigh Boswell, and her respected design and decorating team at Highgate House, have spent the last two decades transforming some of Australia’s finest homes.

Highgate House provides a full service professional solution, incorporating design, planning, sourcing, installation and styling. Quality is key and Leigh has gathered a strong team of talented and reliable designers, manufacturers, suppliers and tradesmen.

The celebrated studio has become synonymous with thoughtful, luxurious interiors, and specialises in high end traditional and contemporary living environments with a timeless elegance.

We spent a few minutes with Leigh to discuss her team’s approach to an immaculate Cape Cod inspired residence that was recently completed in Indooroopilly.

What was the brief for the Indooroopilly Residence?

The owners wanted to create a distinctive Cape Cod aesthetic, something which would reflect the character of their homeland. But they also desired a grand family home that still felt intimate and relaxing. It was quite an interesting challenge.

Describe the solution

We approached the brief knowing that attention to detail would be everything. We limited the colour palette and focused on layering textures.

What materials did you use?

Beautiful natural finishes such as stone and timber were used to breath character into this home.  Stunning dark timber floors, sandstones, marbles and other rustic elements contrast beautifully with detailed joinery in crisp white.

How long did the project take?

For this project we were able to get involved very early in the conceptual stages, working side-by-side with the architect right through to the final decorating and styling. The project took just over a year to complete.

What was the most satisfying part of the project?

There’s nothing better than a delighted client. We pride ourselves on creating beautiful interiors that reflect our clients’s personality and taste, and we are devoted to creating luxuriou s and harmonious interiors that enhance the experience of everyday life. So the most satisfying part of this project was delivering a finished and fully styled home ready to enjoy, and seeing the look of sheer delight on our clients’ faces.
