Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese system of coordinating yourself with the surrounding environment.

We sat down with Agent, Jacq Hackett and Feng Shui enthusiast to give us her explantion of Feng Shui and her top tips on making sure your home has good energy flow.

How would you describe Feng Shui?

Most western people think Feng Shui is about positioning objects in a house to capture good luck.

Feng Shui translates literally into East West and follows the solar energy through the home.

How can people determine whether or not they have good Feng Shui?

To determine whether or not you already have good Feng Shui, you have too find out your Kua. The Kua is the number based on the Chinese Birth Calendar.

Depending on your Kua, your lucky directions will either be East or West.

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy based on creating good energy flow throughout nine bagua. This is your life areas. These are your life areas.

The bagua can be mapped according to the four cardinal points on the compass (NESW), the four transitioning points (NE, SE, SW, NW) and the centre 9th bagua, placed in the centre of the home or room.

These nine life areas cover finance, fame, marriage, family, health, children, spirituality, career & travel.

Each of the eight directions have a corresponding element (fire, wood, earth, metal, water). It is believed these elements enhance the energy of the bagua or inhibit it.

So for good energy flow, elements representing health (earth) ought to be placed in the centre of the home. Such as a pot plant or clay vase.

Water enhances and nourishes earth but wood elements take nutrients out... so it limits the good flow of energy.

Changing the energy flow can change areas of your life....

What are your top tips to create good Feng Shui?

Declutter

Start with removing anything you don’t love in your home.

Natural Light and Air Flow

Open your windows, curtains and blinds to let good air flow through your home.

Figure out your Kua Number and your Lucky Directions

As I mentioned before, finding out your Kua Number and Lucky Directions will determine which way your bed, dining table, desk, etc. should be facing.

Be mindful of the energy in your home

Making sure your home has good energy will instantly influence your well-being for the better.
