When selling your home, the photographs that promote it are one of the most important parts of your campaign.

Making your home look presentable in the images will instantly draw buyers to want to see more.

Getting your home styled by a professional is always a great way to make your place stand out.

But this is not always necessary and there are things you can do yourself to ensure your house looks great on camera.

We sat down with agent, Will Torres, to discuss how he gets his sellers prepared for a photo shoot.

Lighting

Make sure all the lights in your home are working.

If there are broken bulbs, it's a good idea to change them before your photoshoot.

It’s best to avoid very cool or green tone fluorescent bulbs.

Before the photoshoot, turn on all your lights including exterior.

Things to turn off

Turn off your ceiling fans and TV’s.

If the photographer feels as though they want these things on, they will decide when they arrive.

Declutter

It’s important to declutter shelves, tables, fridges and counter tops.

This will help the potential buyers view the property in their own way and image it with their own things in it.

If you have all of your stuff everywhere, buyers won’t see the potential it has.

Organise your cupboards and put these items away, including fridge magnets, etc.

Remove photos

Removing family photos is a must.

We want potential buyers to imagine their life in the home, not the sellers.

Make beds

When you make the beds, ensure you’ve done a great job.

Crushed sheets and and doona covers don’t look very nice on camera.

Move cars

Before a photoshoot, it’s a good idea to move your car off the driveway.

This is important for the exterior image of the home.

Park your car a little bit up the street so it doesn’t get in the photographer's way.

Basic gardening

Sweep your driveways, sidewalks and patios.

Make sure your yard is mowed and raked.

Hide away your garden tools including hoses and sprinkles.

Clean pool

Ensure your pool looks swimmable and inviting.

Once you’ve finished cleaning the pool, remove the cleaning systems from the pool and store away out of sight.
