Donald Blue is an American born artist who has had a Chinese brush in his hand since the 70’s when he started painting bamboo on pottery using ink.

Donald’s style from the beginning has been painting misty mountain landscapes, trees and bamboo. That was until about a year ago when he ventured into portraits of cultural icons.

For something that started as a personal joke between him and his artist friend, this 36 piece collection (as much to Donald’s surprise) has become something magnificent. “About Face,” is his first exhibition of portraits.

Some of the familiar faces you’ll see in this collection include musical legends like, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and cultural icons like Obama and Nelson Mandala.

We went down to have a sneak peak of the collection at Donald’s Camp Hill studio and find out where it all began.

This collection is a masterpiece that needs to be seen to be appreciated. Take a trip down memory lane with Donald Blue and see the collection for yourself at the HDG Studio Gallery in Sherwood Friday November 24 to Sunday November 26.
