Carina Heights is an up-and-coming suburb presenting itself as an ideal area for young and established families, professional couples and retirees who want to live on the cusp of suburbs like Camp Hill and Coorparoo that’ve already blossomed.
Three developers, David McFadden, Jeremy Verhey and Stephen James, teamed together to create a brand new apartment block located on Winstanley Street, Carina Heights.
The guys saw Carina Heights as a growth suburb that is presenting opportunities for residential development, being close to high-performing suburbs, shopping centres and well-regarded schools.
We caught up with David to find out why they chose Carina Heights to develop and what makes this apartment block unique.
What’s unique about this boutique development?
We purposely made the 19 boutique apartments simple to provide a blank canvas for buyers who want to incorporate their own look and feel.
We wanted to make sure it suited and create a lifestyle for all types of people, young and old.
We believe this is what sets apart from other developments.
Why did you choose Carina Heights?
Carina Heights is surrounded by some of Brisbane’s best amenities, including Westfield Carindale, Whites Hill Reserve, and has a triangle advantage to the CBD, Sunshine and Gold Coast and airport with easy access to both the M3 and M1.
The suburb has a lot of older-style homes, so we saw a demand for new and fresh residences to help add to the overall aesthetics of the suburb.
A lot of younger people who’ve grown up Carina Heights want to stay close to home, but the cost of a house in the suburb is out-of-reach.
Our development provides a more affordable alternative, yet you’re getting a brand new, spacious home. If you’re a first home buyer, you’re eligible to use the Queensland government’s grant if you purchase one of our apartments.
We’ve seen a lot of interest from professional couples, young families and singles who want to be close to Griffith university, public transport, restaurants and one of the biggest shopping centres in the southern hemisphere.
How did you come up with the style and design of the property?
We always wanted to develop something residential as we were mainly in commercial development before.
We compared the style of the property to others in the market and gained ideas from them.
The boutique homes were designed around lifestyle. Creating a lifestyle vibe was extremely important to us throughout the process of the design.
We wanted to create something that would appeal to a vast range of demographics, including first home buyers, families and downsizers.
My mother gave ideas and input when it came to the style and feel of the homes.
Throughout the process, at the forefront of our minds was that the residences would have to be something we’d live in ourselves with our own families.
What has the journey been like?
It was hard work, both mentally and physically. What made it easier was having a team that was like-minded and hardworking.
We formed some really great relationships throughout the process.
At the end of the day, it's not a job to us, it's our passion.
We are our biggest critics and know there is always room for improvement.
We are excited to bring what we learnt from this development to our future projects.
What projects have you done in the past?
My background was in land banking for commercial units.
Steve mainly did retail shop fit outs.
To form our team of three we brought on Steve’s son-in-law, Jeremy, who had a background in architectural design for homes.
We amalgamated our professions together which gave us unique and exciting thought processes throughout the project.
