Muir Street | The Story Behind This Labour of Love

Taking elements from the traditional Queensland cottage and creating a beautiful, spacious family home right in the heart of Cannon Hill, the renovation of 62 Muir Street has been a real labour of love.

Current owner of the property, Edita Besic, bought the property and underwent the major renovation in partnership with her father.

With plans for the development to initially be Edita’s forever family home, the house has been contrasted by family, for a family, with love.

Edita talked us through the process, and what she loves most about this beautiful place.

What inspired the renovation?

I have a Queenslander myself in Morningside and many years ago I raised the home, so firstly, I knew the logistics of what a big renovation like this would entail.

We were looking for a Queensland style home that was close to the city.

We wanted to keep the original character elements of the house to the front, and wanted everything to be timber, so no brickwork.

It was really important for us to keep as much of the character of the home as possible, while adding modern elements.

The windows for example, are a colonial look but are made from aluminium so are much more durable.

The home is a combination of both Hamptons and Queensland style.

What attracted you to the area?

It was the fact that it was close to the city, and with the East Village and golf club development there’s a lot happening in Cannon Hill.

It’s also within very close proximity to Murarrie and the Gateway Bridge – I travel a lot and it’s only a short 10-minute drive to the airport which is fantastic.

There’s also lots of great public transport options nearby with trains and busses, straight into the city and across town.

How was it working with your family?

Coming from a European background, a lot of our friends and family have been in the building industry for many years.

Their workmanship was impeccable and we could really trust them to do the best possible job.

I think because the workers were family, they took extra care which at times could take extra time, but it was all well-worth the wait.

Who do you see living in the property, and what do you think they’ll love about the place?

I can really see an executive couple with children as the perfect home owners for the property.

There is a huge pool, backyard and big living areas that a family can really utilise.

The beauty of the house is that whoever buys it, will be able to walk in and have nothing more to do.

We originally built the house ready for us to live in, so it is completely ready for the new homeowners.

It is the perfect home for a family who likes to entertain.

The house is open plan style with a large lounge and dining area.

There’s the outdoor barbecue area with beer fridge for the blokes.

There’s the large balcony where the parents can relax and read a nice book, overlooking the children playing and running amuck in the yard.

An expert of the local area, real estate agent Chris Rice, made also made comment on the renovation.

“You can’t help but appreciate the sheer attention to detail that’s gone into this home by the owners,” he said.

For an agent like me who is passionate about Cannon Hill, homes like 62 Muir Street play a critical in moving the suburb even closer in value to its Bulimba/Norman Park/Morningside ‘neighbours’.

Painstakingly built with high level materials throughout from the bamboo flooring to G.James Windows and doors, the seamless outdoor entertaining patio with full length granite outdoor kitchen manicured fully landscaped yard and garden and full size 9m x 5m pool – the list goes on.

Really the attention to detail blew me away on my first inspection and really sets a new benchmark for the area.
